The myth.

Every girl grows up with the fantasy of one day meeting the man of her dreams.

She is conditioned to expect the fairy tale. The white horse, big dress, gorgeous man cliche that surrounds her.

She is waiting for the one.

The one.

A small word but one that carries with it so many hopes, dreams, wishes and basically, the promise of ultimate happiness.

Isn’t that too much pressure on one word or in that case one person.

Because we wait our whole lives to find Mr. I am the one, most of the times we miss out on the belief that ‘I am the one’

We don’t need a man to make us happy, to make us feel worth it or simply good. We have to do that and have it in us to make it happen.

We desperately search for a person to make us feel beautiful, we believe we have found them, we don’t get what we want, we feel hurt, we promise never to let others be the cause of our happiness and the next we know the vicious cycle has begun again.

I mean it is just one in a million who actually find ‘the one’ and live a story book life, with white picket fences, overly romantic gestures of love and  rocking chairs surrounded by there near and dear ones.

Most people keep waiting and in the hope, miss out on living a happy life with just themselves. Because that is all you need. Yourself.

You need not look like Gisele Bündchen, have the wit of Tina fey or cook like Nigella Lawson. But you are the perfect you. It is only you who can make this you happy!

And isn’t that what’s most important?

I think it’s high time we change this Disney influenced world, where good wins over evil,  where their are fairy god mothers and a prince whisks you away.

Sure I sound pessimistic, narrow minded and even really bitter but the truth is I am just a realist trying to tell you that this world is a fight and till the day we don’t get over this ‘Cinderella complex’ we all have, we can never ever reach out for what we truly want, more so what we need.

Nowadays I don’t think what we need is ‘the one’, what we need is ‘the fight’.  To succeed irrespective of who is with us and who is not.

So girls, the only men we really need are, Jimmy Choo, Michael Korrs and Ben and Jerrys. Yes?

We can manage the rest. Trust me!

Chand 🙂
